Int. - Sr. Piping Designer / Drafter

Job Overview
Seeking motivated self-starters and team contributors, with 5-10 years’ progressive engineering experience within an EPCM / industrial plant environment, to join our team. Responsibilities:
  • Report to Department Head for project assignments and administrative requirements, and to Discipline Lead & Project Manager for project-specific directives.

  • Work in secondment positions, on client site.
  • Comply with project, department, company, and client regulatory codes, standards, and specifications for engineering design services.
  • Translate Client requirements into 3D models, drawings, sketches, material lists, and other design documents.
  • Incorporate results of preliminary and multi-discipline reviews into design; ensure designs are accurate, functional, safe, and complete prior to submission for checking.
  • Identify information shortfalls or incomplete designs (e.g. missing certified vendor drawings) to Discipline Lead (Designer and / or Engineer) for resolution.
  • Organize and file documents per standards and supervise CAD Drafters.
  • Ensure design accuracy, functionality, and safety; incorporate review results into designs.
  • Check and review designs for compliance with standards and specifications; highlight project variances to Discipline Lead.
  • Identify potential changes or variances in scope, budget, or schedule.
  • Engage in continuing education to broaden knowledge and stay current.
  • Create detailed drawings, 3D models, and review vendor/discipline designs to identify interferences.
  • Interface with other departments to progress production.
  • Coordinate designs with Clients and other disciplines; participate in model reviews.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior personnel and seek help for complex problems.
  • Support estimate development and maintain knowledge of industry, regulatory, and environmental standards.
  • Demonstrate stakeholder awareness to ensure project success.
  • Use 3D modeling software and scanning for design processes.


Keys for success:
  • Oil & gas experience within an established EPC / EPCM company with refinery, pipelines & facilities experience.
  • Working understanding of engineering deliverables and project delivery process.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written skills (tactful, diplomatic, and professional) for effective communication with all organizational levels, organized and dedicated team player with a Client service mindset.
  • Excellent time management skills with attention to detail in all areas of work; demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities to ensure project deliverables and timelines are met.
  • Strong knowledge of 2D CAD software and working knowledge of 3D modeling software (AutoPlant, Plant 3D, OpenPlant, etc.) and laser scanning and point cloud files.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
  • Working knowledge of FARO laser scanner.
  • Previous owner / operator – site-based experience – an asset.


Required
  • 5-10 years’ experience.
  • Technical Diploma or Certificate from a recognized technology program; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Registration with applicable provincial governing body.
  • AutoCAD and / or MicroStation drafting software.
  • 3D design / drafting software (e.g. AutoPlant, Plant 3D, OpenPlant, etc.).
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract.
