Sr. Mechanical Engineer

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer reports to the Mechanical Hiring Manager at the Rally Office based in Sherwood Park. This role will be an expert is supporting development of a non-aqueous extraction pilot plant.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Plan, design, evaluate, and advise on the application of engineering principles; comply with established project, department, Company, Client, and regulatory codes and standards; and provide engineering design services through the utilization of technical knowledge and tools.
  • Translate Client specifications and project design criteria / objectives into deliverables (i.e. study reports, simulations, calculations, data sheets, Material Requisitions, Construction Work Packages, etc.).
  • Name and file documents per Client and Company standards and procedures.
  • Implement preliminary and multi-discipline reviews into deliverables, ensure they are accurate, functional, safe, and complete prior to submission for checking.
  • Identify shortfalls of information or incomplete areas of design (e.g. missing certified vendor data) for resolution to Discipline Lead.
  • Check other Discipline Engineers’ work; review deliverables created by other disciplines and ensure deliverables meet Client and Company standards, applicable codes and specifications.
  • Initiate Technical Deviation Notices when design is not compliant with standards and specifications.
  • Identify potential Change Notices and project variances (e.g. scope, budget and schedule) to Discipline Lead.
  • Review and authenticate (e.g. P.Eng. stamping) drawings produced by discipline Designers; ensure they meet Company standards and incorporate safe and sustainable design practices.
  • Engage in personal and continuing program of learning in order to broaden engineering knowledge to improve individual effectiveness and avoid technical obsolescence.
  • Authority in discipline specific engineering, design (e.g. calculations), drafting (e.g. production engineering), vendor documentation review.
  • Development of the discipline specific engineering section of the PEP.
  • Materials take-off management, constructability management (from an engineering / design perspective).
  • Estimate development support; may be required to prepare Man-Hour Estimate and Deliverable List and review with Department Head.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to a group of project personnel containing both professionals and non-professionals (e.g. technical and non-technical).
  • Leadership in discipline specific HAZOP / HAZID / 3D Model Reviews / JHAs or other formal project reviews as applicable for the respective discipline.
  • Provide guidance and mentor E.I.T., technicians, technologists, etc.; ensure appropriate procedures and specifications are appropriately applied.


Qualifications - Education, Skills and Experience:
  • 10+ years’ progressive experience, 10+ years’ Canadian experience, 5+ years’ leadership experience.
  • Mechanical Engineering degree from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Registered professional engineer in Alberta.
  • Mining or extraction experience.
  • Pressure vessel experience.
