Project Overview

The LP Electrical Infrastructure Program included a series of projects to replace aged assets including:

  • Substation transformer line ups complete with 138kV isolation switch, SF6 circuit breaker, transformer (typical 20/26 MVA), neutral ground resistor, 5kV isolation switch and associated monitoring & control panels.
  • Variable frequency drives (typical 6000hp).
  • Load break switches, vacuum circuit breakers, motor control circuits and other medium voltage switchgear.
  • Motor control refeed projects where pumping station motors control were refed from equipment that was not near the end of service while the aged equipment was taken out of service.

Transformer Line Up Replacement

The following equipment was replaced as part of the project:

  • Manual isolation switch was replaced with a new motorized switch.
  • PCB contaminated oil circuit breaker was replaced with a new SF6 circuit breaker.
  • New 20/26MVA transformer replace the existing PCB contaminated transformer.
  • New neutral grounding resistor.
  • Existing relay panel was replaced with a new relay control panels.

Electrical Building Expansion & Switchgear Replacement

The project modified the existing building to install a new arc flash rated 5kV motor starter to replace the existing equipment. The new 5kV motor starters fed the existing unit protection cabinets and service transformer. A new arc flash vent was installed and designed to exhaust at a safe location near the top of the building.
